Building bonds between Children and Dogs…

One lesson at a time.

More than 2 million children are bitten by dogs each year in America. The Humane Society estimates 51% of dog bite victims are children, and those between the ages of 5 and 9 are most likely to be bitten by a dog.

Golden Hour’s mission is to promote safe, positive and respectful interactions with dogs through positive reinforcement training, and strives to help pet owners understand their dogs body language and what they are trying to communicate along the way. Having the opportunity for children to learn these important aspects, in a fun and easy way they will understand, would make them the kind of friend a dog’s thankful to have!

Golden Hour is excited to offer a special class just for kids! The Golden Way-To Paws for Safety. These workshops are an amazing chance for children to learn the importance of dog safety from a certified trainer, with instruction promoting safe interactions and how to respect boundaries. This lesson includes a presentation, story and game designed to keep children engaged and excited to learn, making them “Dog Safety” experts! So let's em”bark” together on a journey to responsible pet ownership and a lifetime of joyful interactions with all of the dogs we meet along the way!

About the Workshop!

60 minutes long

Golden Hour offers two presentation types with age appropriate curriculum.

One for ages 4-8, and another for ages 9-12!

Children 4-8 will listen to a presentation on dog safety, respectful greetings and how to read dog body language, followed by story time with a book I wrote called “To Love A Dog- The Golden Way”, which summarizes everything your child learned during the workshop. They also become official experts with a round of Dog Body Language BINGO to test what they’ve learned!

Children 9-12 will listen to a presentation on dog safety, respectful greetings, and how to read dog body language. They will also learn what it means to be a dog trainer, how Golden Hour got started, and how they too can become a trainer some day if interested! After the presentation, they will play a game of Dog Trivia to test what they’ve learned!

Dogs speak their own language — and learning to listen keeps everyone safe.

To Love A Dog- The Golden Way gently teaches children how to have safe, respectful, and appropriate interactions with dogs. Through simple lessons and easy-to-understand examples at a preschool level, children learn how to read dog body language, when to give dogs space, and how to properly greet a dog in a calm and appropriate way. Information that is highly valuable whether it’s a dog they already know and love, or one they have never met.

Inspired by the idea of the Golden Rule, The Golden Way shows children how treating dogs with patience, understanding, and kindness helps build trust, prevent accidents, and create lifelong positive relationships between kids and dogs.

Perfect for families, classrooms, and dog-loving homes, this book helps children learn not just how to behave around dogs — but how to truly understand them.
